My Heart Finally Settled

Nicholas Petersen standing peacefully beside his Presidential Record in the National Archives, finally at rest after his heart was seen by the world

For years I was the shy kid who was too afraid to let his heart be seen.

But after traveling the world, finding my courage, and somehow pulling off something that should have been impossible, everything changed. The world now gets to see the heart I kept hidden for so long.

When the White House sent me two letters in less than a month — something statistically almost impossible — it broke me open in the most beautiful way. They do not send letters like this lightly, and they had never responded this way before.

That moment showed me the world needs to know this heart.

This photograph captures the peace I finally found — standing beside the Presidential Record that now holds my name forever in the National Archives.

I built this website to lay my heart completely bare for anyone in the world to see — and to lift up my hometown of Mound, Minnesota, as well. Every quiet year, every unspoken feeling, every beat I once kept locked away… it’s all here.

My story has now been read on every continent.

And while I continue loving America out loud through this site, I carry a quiet belief:

If following my heart could move the White House in a way it never has before, then I trust that when the timing is right, the right person will want to learn about this heart… in person.

Until that day comes, I’ll just keep following my heart — because I now know that even the impossible can happen.
