Coming Full Circle

Nicholas Petersen 2025 Inauguration Day story now lives in the Presidential Records at inside the National Archives of the United States

Coming Full Circle

On January 20, 2025, I stood just four rows from the stage inside Capital One Arena on Inauguration Day. In that moment, I felt a calling in my heart I couldn’t ignore. I stood up and shouted “We love you, Mr. President.”

Both President Trump and First Lady Melania turned around live on international television and acknowledged me.

The White House has now officially validated my story three separate times, including a rare hand-signed letter from the President himself.

That single moment — those five unplanned words — changed the course of my life.

This was my 7th trip to Washington, D.C. Yesterday at Salute to America 250, I stood in a massive security line in brutal heat. People were passing out left and right, medics were constantly being called, and the National Guard was trying to manage the chaos. I made it inside the event and got to see the B-2 stealth bomber and Thunderbirds up close before severe weather forced everyone to evacuate.

I took shelter in the Ronald Reagan Building for about 30 minutes, but eventually decided it wasn’t worth fighting the crowds. I took the train back to my hotel on Capitol Hill to prepare for my flight home to Minnesota today.

I have to admit it’s bittersweet. Both times I’ve come to Washington for major events — Inauguration Day and America’s 250th — the parades were cancelled. First from freezing cold, now from extreme heat. My heart goes out to the bands, like the one from Iowa, who bused across the country only to have their moment taken away.

Despite the extreme heat and seeing more people pass out from heat exhaustion than I ever want to see again, this week was unforgettable. The Great American State Fair was full of life, with people celebrating from booth to booth, enjoying snacks from every corner of America.

The most meaningful moment was taking my parents to the National Archives. Standing in that building knowing my name is now part of the Presidential Records still doesn’t feel real.

To everyone I met this week in Washington D.C. — thank you. Thank you for listening to my story, for looking up my website, and for still believing in America. Your kindness meant more than you know.

This entire chapter of my life started because I listened to my heart inside Capital One Arena. One moment of courage led to something I never could have imagined.

Even though many things in my life haven’t gone the way I hoped, after pulling off something this rare, I now have real hope for the future. I will never listen to negative voices again. I’m keeping my heart open and my faith strong, trusting that what comes next will be exactly what’s meant for me.

Happy 250th Birthday, America 🇺🇸
