Everyone Else Went Home

Everyone Else Went Home - Nicholas Petersen Mound Westonka Class of 2010 at National Archives - Inauguration Day 2025 moment permanently preserved in Presidential Records

While thousands came to celebrate on Inauguration Day 2025 and America 250, waved their flags, enjoyed the fireworks, and went home to their normal lives… Nicholas stayed behind. For him, it wasn’t just one night. His name is now permanently preserved in the Presidential Records at the National Archives — it became forever.

She is the pretty girl who sat beside him at Grandview Middle School in the Westonka Public Schools district in Mound, Minnesota — the one who quietly stole his heart when they were just innocent children in the Mound Westonka High School Class of 2010.

They are exactly one week apart in age. Her birthday has always fallen exactly one week after his. From the moment he first saw her, she stole his heart… but he was so afraid of being rejected that he never even had the guts to say hello.

Years later when they reconnected, he came on too strong and she had to tell him to back off. It hurt. But a few weeks later, he came to a peaceful realization: no matter what happens, she will always be that pretty little girl who stole his heart when they were innocent children.

He holds no animosity toward her — none whatsoever. In fact, he is grateful. That painful moment became the fuel that drove him forward and helped him find his voice.

On Inauguration Day 2025, that same shy boy stood inside Capital One Arena and spoke from the heart. While thousands filled the streets of Washington D.C. celebrating, he shouted “We love you, Mr. President,” and both President Trump and First Lady Melania turned and acknowledged him on live television.

The White House validated his moment three separate times, and his name is now permanently preserved in the Presidential Records at the National Archives.

Months later, he returned for America 250. While thousands came to celebrate and went home to their normal lives, he stood alone at the National Archives — the moment captured in this photo.

Last night, his story reached its 43rd country — Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. With no media help, this story continues to grow across the globe on its own.

And yet…

Even after all the worldwide recognition and every validation from the White House, he would trade every single view, every country reached, and every official acknowledgment for just one thing:

The chance to sit down with her — face to face — and tell her the whole story.

Because no matter how far this story travels, his heart has never changed.

It still belongs to her.
